Screening for Salivary Gland Toxicity in Drug Development
More than 500+ lifesaving medications cause salivary gland dysfunction including antihypertensives, diuretics, and antihistamines. Simultaneous use of multiple medications increases severity. Drug induced dry mouth is not screened for in the drug development process due to high animal model costs and lack of functional salivary gland models.
